Indonesia: deforestation and forest degradation in Borneo's forests
Borneo is the third largest island in the world, located in South East Asia. Originally, this region was entirely covered by thick rain forests, but the expansion of mills exporting timber, oil palm, and pulpwood have roughly destroyed these forests. 80% of the plywood that is used in the United States for homes, comes from Borneo. Countries that buy this timber cough up $8,000,000 yearly to give to the Indonesian economy for their trouble.
